I particularly loved the fact that Dirick not only accepts Meris's oddities, such as her devotion to the villagers, but he embraces that part of her. Where the book goes wrong is the creepy disgusting parts. The fact that ther are two blood relatives competing to marry Meris is a bit absurd. There is also a weird serial killer plot line, and it is very strange who it is that turns out to be the serial killer. My guess is that serial killers are a modern phenomena and were unnecessary in such a brutal age.
Another problem for me is how difficult it is for Meris and Dirick to clear up their misunderstanding. All in all a good book, but it had the potential to be much better. Twists, turns and fairly intriguing plot A Whisper Of Rosemary: This author kept her hero, Dirick, and heroine, Maris, too far apart in this story. This story is so cold. Their relationship is cold and nonexistent. There are no developed relationships in this story. Everybody wants something other than love -- land, people to possess, position, money, power.
There is a struggle for alliances to a better position. This story is too long and drawn out meandering all over the place. It needs centralization, which the author had once all the key players were in place early in the book, but then the author have her characters wander aimlessly around sending people here, there and everywhere. I can't get a grip on this story, so I'm skipping pages. When I come across a sentence or paragraph that needs clarification, I go back and look for it. This is the worse way to read a book.
I'm going to finish it, but I'm two-thirds thru and the H and H are still apart. They had two kissing sessions, from which no closeness developed. The Rest Falls Away. The Cards of Life and Death. The Chess Queen Enigma. The Gems of Vice and Greed.

I am not going to be reading another book by this author. This is the second book of hers that I thought was a waste. A Whisper of Rosemary What can I say except that this is a wonderful story. The end was beautiful and and very sad but it is a wonderful read. Colleen Gleason is wonderful writer that she makes me feel like I am there watching everything that is happening.

I hope you will enjoy reading this story and the others in this series as much as I did. Apr 11, Angela rated it liked it. Don't know why, but this had my heart pounding in anxiety at one point. I couldn't put it down. May 05, Lucie rated it it was amazing Shelves: Not your typical historical romance. Well written and engaging, I found A Whisper of Rosemary hard to put down. It includes a mystery with enough plot twists to keep you guessing. I enjoyed this book immensely. A good book, not a great one, but an enjoyable read nonetheless.
Odd ending Many twists and turns in this medieval romance. The hero and heroine are quite believable. There are a few typos in the book that need fixing. A lot is suspense, twists and turns. Good guys, bad guys and in-between. Culture, love, fondness and brutality. I don't tend to read much romance, let alone historical. But, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The main female character was strong and I will read the others that are in the series.
Rosemary is not the name of anyone in the book. It's a scent in soap that Maris uses that the Knight Dirick is attracted to. These are the two main characters. Maris' "healer" aspect is an important one in this book and is the reason for a number of story twists. Dirick does not feel worthy of Maris because he is not a land owner so he has nothing to offer her; Maris only wants to marry for love.
Her father decides on a man who is totally wrong for her. A few men who want to marry own her brin Rosemary is not the name of anyone in the book. A few men who want to marry own her bring about plot twists. The mystery around who killed Dirick's father brings evil and intrigue into the book. My main problem with the book was the relationship between Maris' mother and the man she always loved and who sired Maris.
I read this book in an afternoon, and enjoyed it enough to not want to put it down. Easy read and interesting. Jun 06, Deliasue rated it it was amazing. This book takes place in England during the time of lords and ladies, and kings courts. It is about Makris and Derek, Makris was the daughter of a Lord, spoiled somewhat but a good herbal healer. She loved the people of her kingdom. Her father tried to make her marry a young Lord, she did not love him and leaned on Derek a stranger in her kingdom undercover looking for the murderer of his father and others.
They became close friends in the end and fell deeply in love. He was her knight in shining This book takes place in England during the time of lords and ladies, and kings courts. He was her knight in shining armor. Jan 19, AnnMarie rated it it was amazing.
The story kept me captivated from beginning to end. It made me run the tumult of emotions, one minute I would be laughing, the next I could be angry, or crying.
A book that can make me feel all that is a great one. I see in a couple of reviews that some people weren't happy about the ending. Yes it was very sudden, but it 'fit', there were no loose ends, and all that happened made sense.
